I should add that it's not really an "aid" to me in normal usage - I use them going up and down Munroes in Scotland mostly. If I can take them on board it means I'll be hand-luggage only.
I have successfully taken my crook / crosier on BA as hand luggage via NCL and LHR T5 in both directions. I don't make a habit of it (haha).
