SJC does have some handicaps as a result of more regional decisions. I find it unfortunate that when light rail was being built nobody took that opportunity to reinvent SJC as a regional transit hub. Imagine if local buses (VTA), regional buses (inter-county transit), long distance buses (greyhound & amtrak buses to other parts of California), light rail, caltrain, and Amtrak all converged on or next to the airport grounds with a quick, efficient, frequent, and convenient tram connecting them? Bart will envelop the bay and high speed rail will come and go and we still won't have a unified transit hub in the south bay.
A minor issue compared to the economy and the draw off from United and Virgin America hubs at SFO - but one that may be preventing SJC from stealing more SFO O/D tourist traffic. We don't have the transit connections to SF that they enjoy from SFO.
