I know that I shouldn't buy first class tickets, but it's the only thing available.

My company is flying me (coach) to San Diego for a convention next week. My boyfriend (who never flies anywhere) wants to come with me, which I thought I'd be able to do on miles a few weeks ago. Unfortunately due to the convention, the miles cost is super super high... So now I'm buying a $450 one way ticket between San Diego and Seattle. For the time we need to leave the convention, and to get him on a nonstop flight (because he absolutely hates flying), this is the right choice for me.

Now that I know I'm doing it, is there anything I should know? Is there a preferred rewards site to buy your tickets on if you are buying first class?

I'm planning on buying the tickets with my miles card, and through Orbitz.com. Is there a different place or a coupon code or rate code I should be aware of? I'm no longer an MVP member (although I had been in the past). I got reset and am working my way back up in status, so I don't think I can try to wedge my way into First class with him?
