YMMV-wise, it's not about how you value your miles or spend them, you have to get them from somewhere, and that has a cost associated with it.
I agree; they do have a cost and a value. But in some sense they are kind of "funny money", IMHO, especially if one gets them by flying on tickets someone else is paying for, or from credit card spend.
But all in all I'm happy that one can upgrade Z fares in advance, and not just UFC them at the gate! To me, that was a huge benefit we gained (was it about 18 months ago?). If only one could SWU them...
