I most certainly have checked out the airlinemeals website and particular like the menus that have been posted there.

Today, I want to share menus from two First Class flights I actually flew! The first was a Qantas flight from Sydney to Christchurch, back in 1982, on the 747SP Qantas bought in large part to service flights into Wellington, which had (and still has) a very short runway. I remember this as a brilliant meal and I was seated in the small upper deck cabin that was, at that time, reserved as a First Class cabin. Check this menu out:

Luncheon:

Sydney Rock Oysters on the Shell with Lemon, Brown Bread and Cocktail Sauce or
Prosciutto and Melon

Spring Salad

Tournedos Chasseur with Selected Vegetables or
Seafood Casserole (a combination of prawns, lobster, scallops and barramundi in a white sauce with fresh tomatoes, shallots and herbs - this was brilliant!)or
Chef's Recommendation (can't recall what this was)

Passionfruit & Strawberry Pavlova

Camembert ++ Queensland Blue ++ Gruyere ++ Vintage Cheddar
Fresh Fruit Basket
Pralines

During the early 90s, I was lucky enough to do a deal with Aerolineas Argentinas to fly the Buenos Aires-Auckland route in First, by paying the full Business Class fare. I think on both legs there were only two of us in the Upper Deck cabin. The seats seemed to be cast-offs from Pan Am, but it was great to be able to stretch out on that long crossing and arrive in good shape. Out of Auckland, the following dinner was served:

Caviar with Blinis

Pate de Foie Gras or
Timbale of Smoked Salmon

Consomme

Chateaubriand with Tarragon Sauce or
Breast of Chicken in Saffron Sauce or
Salmon a l'Orange with Nantua Sauce

Duchess Potatoes ++ Buttered Broccoli ++ Carrots ++ Rice Pilaf

Gourmet Salad with Roquefort or Honey Dressings

Cheese Board
Bombe Glace Francillon
Fruit Basket

While hunting for the above menus, I came across this one from British Caledonian (remember that airline?). It's for the London-Lagos route, on their new DC10s, and dates from 1977. To my mind, it's pretty lavish, given that this is not a particularly long sector.

Jubilee Luncheon

Smoked Scotch Salmon or
Galantine of Game with Jubilee Salad

Fillet of Angus Beef with Hunter Sauce or
Norfolk Chicken with Grapes, Apple & Brandy Sauce or
Fresh Scallops with Cheese Sauce

Braised Courgettes ++ Creamed Spinach ++ New Minted Potatoes ++ Glazed Carrots ++ Broccoli Spears ++ Roast Potatoes

Salad Bowl with Vinaigrette or Blue Cheese Dressing

Strawberry Cheesecake or
House of Windsor Gateau

International Cheese Board
Fresh Fruit
Chocolate Mints

****************************************

Sandringham Tea

Wholemeal & Fruit Scones with Clotted Cream and Strawberry Jam

Old-fashioned Fruit Loaf

Rum & Ginger Cake

Shortbread Biscuits

Tea with Milk or Lemon

Very British! Economy passengers also got the scones and jam, plus a chocolate eclair and Royal Battenburg Cake. These menus were celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth's reign.

Has anyone else any menus to share from less well-known airlines, or carriers that have disappeared?

Once again, remember and enjoy!
