Travelling on award ticket on overbooked flights

Just got thinking... what happens if I am SE travelling on an award ticket on an overbooked flight? My status doesn't show on the boarding pass, do I still get comp upgraded based on my status?

I can't go up and offer to use my upgrade certs since I am on an award ticket and agents don't always follow the "rules".

Just thinking ahead for the Rupert trip. I am just using 25K points for a Y ticket, no way am I spending 40K for J to see him for an hour.
