I personally am not upset with this change (I'd fly SQ over UA any day
) I fly a lot in Y, and when I fly in a so called flagship plane (which the 747 is to UA) I expect at least PTVs. Fly a 747, and you get the shared video. Meanwhile, when I think of a 737, I don't think of AVOD/PTV screens, so I won't be disappointed when I fly it. Call me when 747s get AVOD, then I'll cry "Why a 737?!?". BTW I'm sure Tiger Airways does HKG-SIN on an A320, it's not unheard of.
