The airlines created this mess by charging for the first checked piece, which, of course, is going to inspire "Joe Sixpack" to try and carry-on absolutely everything. Yet very few blame the airlines for this perceived problem. I say perceived because on-time departure stats are improving, not getting worse, so why is it suddenly so important to get on the gate check, bag-sizer bandwagon?
