Current Delta policy on low miles awards to Europe
3 or 4 weeks ago, I noticed that there were no award flights available from Los Angeles to London in the low miles category for as far into the future as it let me search. I checked several other European destinations, and found the same situation. I contacted Delta about this, and they were evasive, refusing to acknowledge that this was due to anything other than high demand for those seats.
This complete unavailability of low miles seats to Europe persisted for some time, but I just checked again today, and the LAX-LHR route suddenly has them available again. There is even a smattering of green (indicating low miles availability for that day) on the calendar for July!
Does anyone have any background information on what is going on with this? They had obviously eliminated low mile awards to Europe (and maybe other destinations) for a while, and now seemed to have changed their minds. Maybe they were threatened with a class action suit for not living up to their stated rewards program?
