Wow thanks folks, this is indeed the case with checked bags and I appreciate the heads up. If I am meeting someone coming in from a different international location connecting to the same HKT leg, where would you recommend I meet them? I was hoping for some place other than the departure gate since it may not be assigned yet (long layover) and they aren't as savvy traveling. I'll be there 5 hours before them though, so probably coming from whichever C lounge you all would recommend.
The TG domestic lounge in concourse A, across from gate A2 (?), is nothing much. No showers, no booze. 5 hours is a direly long time to spend there.
You could attempt to access the international lounges by heading upstairs through transfer security and using your arriving BP. It may or may not work, but you can just tell them you to want a shower. NB: do not under any circumstances allow the person working the bottom of the escalator to see your domestic BP or in any way catch on you have a domestic connection. Simply tell him/her you are going to the transfer desk. The international transfer desk was moved upstairs, to the other side of transfer security, last year allowing this attempt. I'm not claiming it will work, but for 5 hours it's definitely worth a try.
