Best Port On Laptop To Use For External Hard Drive Backup

I need to develop a backup strategy for my new laptop. Before I do this, I will be selecting an external hard drive and will probably put a unit together myself by buying the bare drive, enclosure and connecting cable.

My laptop (i7-740, Win 7, 8GB RAM) has the following ports available for external connections:
1. Network (LAN)

2. Monitor

3. eSATA/USB

4. ExpressCard/34 slot

5. i.LINK 4-pin (S400)

6. USB 3 (2 of these)
(I have to admit that I don't even know what some of these are.)

Which port do you think will provide me with the fastest output to an external hard drive?

Is there anything else I should consider?
