AA successfully flew SJC-NRT from 1990 to 2006 on 777s without restriction. Only for a very brief time at the beginning in 1990 did it stop in OAK, but for most of the 16 years it was non-stop from San Jose. SJC's two 11,000-foot runways can handle anything flying today except A380s, and airlines are certainly able to serve key destinations in Asia and Europe from Silicon Valley with no difficulty.
