I personally like Hua Hin, it's easy to reach from Bangkok and it's got a bit of local tourism/flair as well. The beach is not great, but it's a nice place to relax.

Alternatively Ko Lanta is also nice, not too crowded (yet) and relatively easy to get to, TG flies to Krabi and all hotels/resorts offer transfer from the airport to the island.
