Indeed, it can be, but with the new seats the discount will probably go away. Incidentally the current fare rules for discounted J ex-USA are 7 days advanced purchase, 7 days minimum stay, 30 days maximum stay, $300 change penalty, book in I, and they are very, very attractive (2339.00+~$150 tax for SFO-europe round trip).

The IFE was excellent and, as you said, worked flawlessly and is extremely responsive, both with the buttons and with the touch-screen (an undocumented feature). IIRC, it's made by Panasonic. The content was top-notch as well.
