I am a marriott platinum and have been happy with them. I like their promotions too like 10 points per dollar spent and 50% platinum bonus. Also they always run promotions hence i kind of net 25 points per dollar spent on stay. If i choose to get ther credit card I can get additional 5 points per dollar. Their redemption is also not bad like 12 - 15k for a category 3. Every two weeks ( 3 + 3) i earn one free night for category 3.

I have heard people talk about spg and thought i should try it.
When i look closely, they give you only 2 points per dollar spent on stay. This is not even close to what marriott is giving. SPG need 10k for category 3 redemption. It would take years to get to one free night. What am i missing.

From my understanding it doesn't make sense to even try if the point ratio is that bad. Any thoughts or pointers that I am missing?

I stay 3 nights a week.
