Yes, it does cancel the rest of the itinerary in case of a no show on the first segment - systematically. So your only option will be to change your KL itinerary if the ticket allows you to change the destination of the outbound from PEK to BKK (or ask them if they would let you change the ticket into a single PEK-wherever but that would cost an absolute bomb, more than buying a new return).
While I would normally agree, that the system would cancel all subsequent flight coupons it seems to not always be the case.
There were some cases on this forum in the past where people said that even though the first segment was a no-show they could still take the remaining flights.
My personal experience has been that I was booked on a city trip but for some reason couldn't get to the outbound flight in time on Friday. I was making the trip with a rental car instead.
I was rather surprised to find that I could check in on Saturday for the Sunday return flight. I did this just for kicks and did not plan on actually that flight as I had the rental with me... But this should not have been possible...
So while I would expect a ticket to be invalidated after a no-show and would plan accordingly, reality might actually intervene and allow you to take any subsequent flights.
