Strapping up the kid is irresponsible in my opinion. It is not the risk of a crash, but the evacuation. Strapping up a kid significantly rises the risk of burning in case of an evacuation.
I neve had problems with my lap child in C. On shorthaul I had a free seat anyway ans on longhaul the seat is big enough.
