"Race" -- vernacular reference to ethnic classification(s) -- unfortunately does matter when it comes to immigration control purposes. For example, an ethnic European-American presenting a US passport to passport control at WAW is less likely to get a more intrusive examination/investigation than an ethnic Asian-American presenting a US passport to the same at WAW. Yet another example: an ethnic Swede presenting a Swedish passport at MIA is less likely to get a more intrusive examination/investigation than an ethnic Ethiopian presenting a Swedish passport to the same at MIA. To claim otherwise requires being disingenuous, ignorant or some combination of the two.
