I've read on multiple forums including this one that I will have to re-check-in my baggage upon arrival at ORD and will NOT go automatically to DTW. Is that regardless of airline or just specific airlines? Now if I do have to re-check, is there an official link on an airport site clarifying that?

Thank you
Yes - All US-bound pax either clear CBP formalities at their first point of arrival in the USA or, in the case of Canada and a few other places, prior to departure for USA. At ORD, there will be a recheck area, so all you do is pick your bags off carousel, head through to connecting flights and drop your bags at re-check. Depending on your originating carrier, your bags may actually be tagged to DTW, but that has nothing to do with the recheck.

You will then proceed to clear TSA security and head for your DTW gate. One quick note, if you are carrying duty free liquor or other liquids exceeding 3 oz., you will need to put that in your checked luggage when picking up at carousel and before heading to recheck.
