I am bemused that some of you rate Burj Al Arab. Even if you paid me, I would not return to this tacky, gilded fairground of a hotel. Apart from its decorative assault on the senses, butler service appears to revolve around gratuities, which is irksome given that butlers change every few hours and all expect a tip for doing virtually nothing. And the pool? Do you really rate this tiny, dated puddle? And do you really think that it is cool to descend in a fake submarine à la Disney to the frightful fish restaurant, where huge fish in tanks peer at you whilst you devour their family?
