I asked about this as well for the BA Amex. They said the same - that you weren't supposed to do this. However they said that the Plat card worked differently and they didn't mind accounts in credit.

I have done this with both the BA PP and the Plat. I got the feeling that with the credit card (BA PP) that while they were unhappy with credit balances they would tolerate them for short periods. In most cases I have transferred money and spent it the day it has hit the account. I haven't heard any complaints from them.
YMMV but it usually takes two days for the money to transfer. While this may be fine booking a revenue ticket, it does lead to a bit of worrying - is the flight/hotel/MFU/other still going to be available etc etc
