Best use of miles if moving to the Caribbean

Hi all,

I'm due to be moving to the Caymans at the end of the year with work. I have about 50k BA miles and about 120k Amex MR points. I was intending to transfer all of these to BA miles but am now reconsidering, and would appreciate this board's wise insights.

My plan re the 50k BA miles is to upgrade a return flight LON-GCM from premium economy to business for both me and my partner (as in the life variety, not the rich lawyer/accountant variety). My firm will only pay for economy, but hopefully I can just pay them the difference between economy and prem. economy. On this point - We'll probably only be out there for a couple of years - is it possible to just keep delaying the return leg of the flight until we have a firm return date?

Secondly, I would appreciate your advice on what to do with the MR points. Chances are we'll want to do a fair bit of travel from GCM to north/south america. Is it black and white as to the best way to redeem? BMI seems most flexible, but one of the american carriers may work out cheaper?

Thanks in advance.
