I cannot speak for Marriott, as I am not a representative of theirs, but my best guess would be that it is a business decision that was made. Just like choosing to be a non-smoking family of hotels, not all other chains have decided to follow suit. Every hotel cannot fit the needs of all the guests out there. That is way there are so many different hotel chains and different levels of service within each one. It is up to the guest to choose with their dollars which one fits them. It is up to the hotels to change if they choose to target your particular dollars or not.
