Hey YYZC2,
Thanks for the information.. you captured the salient points... I will be in HKG and BKK in 2 weeks time..
BTW... what the heck were u thinking- going to BKK for only 3 days?? Can't even recover from Jetlag in such short period to enjoy it..
You mentioned that you were in the longbar (CX perhaps?) is that the airline that you flew?
Am scheduled to fly CX (YYZ-HKG-BKK)? how was it? masks on flight??</font>
I'll let the starter of this thread to answer the questions except I'd like to point out I am pretty certain he flew Air Canada from YYZ to HKG as that was the part I was asking for a trip report. I think one of the photo was Finnair, Oneworld carrier, that was the segment between HKG and BKK I think.

Geez...this feels depressing don't you think? It was just a card, an electronic one on top of it. There is no need to associate elite status of a hotel with one's financial health. For all you know, one who's flying First Class all the time could be the begger on the street, you never know!

I gave out at least a dozen of those cards, quite a few of them from Air Canada forum. What I don't understand though is the Gold elite status should have kicked in immediately after you follow the instructions, it doesn't require any effort on your part other than activating it. If you are talking about the bonus points, then don't worry about it, it was never part of the conditions for getting the free card. But what would have been great is you would have earned enough Starpoints to stay for free in Bangkok as the SPG hotels there are Category 1 and 2 (only the Grand Sukhumvit) so you could have a free night for as little as 2,000 pts only, great value. Anyway, I was in Bangkok recently as well and absolutely loved the SPG hotels there. I am writing up a trip report as well now so people here will be able to see some photos and review about Bangkok. Finger crossed for the Air Canada trip report - from an 'insider'!
