My wife and I flew Air Tahiti Nui - last November... LAX-PPT 002/001. Flight Down was on A340-300 Bora Bora / return flight was on A340-300 Mangarova (sp?). They had three planes at the time. Now, they have added, I believe, 2 more.
The interior of the plane was clean, a bit cramped. But typical A340-300 styled seating / interior. Flight attendants were professional and attractive.
The meal service in coach was okay. I did not get my pen out to write home to mom about it. A full meal service is served both ways.
My biggest complaint is that once you were served the meal, it took about 1 1/2 hours for the flight attendants to "pick-up" the tray. Because the seating is cramped, I wanted to sleep and the tray table was definitley an annoyance. The Terreyaki Chicken was good going down, but smelling the remains on the tray table for an extra hour were not appreciated.
I made a constructive criticism to the flight attendant that they should attempt to pick up the trays earlier and be more sensitive when passengers finished their meals. She complained back to me that they were short-handed ... and that's the way they did things... blah blah blah.
Overall, the service was fine. I flew them because we went on a Windstar Cruise ... airfare was included.
Some people upgraded to their business class..their comments were favorable.
BTW, the loading process in LAX is very hectic. The lines were extremely long at LAX security. Get in line late...and the Air Tahiti Nui agents scoop you out of line and you go right to the front to pass through security quick to make the flight.
When you arrive in PPT, get to the front of the line for immigration... it is very slow and the airport is very hot and muggy. Although every time I have passed through PPT, they have a nice Tahitian musicians playing the local favorites.
On the exit...again, the waiting area is very hot and muggy. (Problem for all airlines at PPT).
Have fun.
