Back in the paper ticket era, when dinosaurs roamed the earth airlines had stickers that they could put on said tickets and those stickers plus the associated stamp were known as a revalidation. Those stickers were used for date changes and flight number changes. Anything else required a ticket to be reissued by the airline.
