My itinerary is actually EWR-YYZ-FCO. My trip begins at Newark Liberty, and I have a lengthy layover at Toronto Pearson. Apparently, the EWR-YYZ part of my itinerary is also a UA codeshare with AC.

Know that booking on Expedia gives you less protection than if you book with the carrier - also if you book a mixed itinerary via a third party and international you can have real problems if something goes wrong.
I've been booking through Expedia since 2009, and I've never had problems.
Would you advise me to book online through the carrier itself instead?
