You're going to be looking at the carrier after "operated by" in all cases to determine who is operating the flight.

Are you connecting from the US, or are you booking this as a separate flight? You say you are booking YYZ-FCO, but didn't think that UA could actually sell a YYZ-FCO flight, unless its part of an itinerary beginning in the US. Or is this allowed as part of the ATI?
