I've had a few Filson bags and they rock! The sportsman is great, though cotton twill tends to scuff in my experience. I, like you, wanted a non-wheeled option and purchased this: Weekender Duffle

I like that it is ballistic and the look of the bag - but most of that it fits overhead on the small regional jets. Furthermore, it has a waterproof liner that has saved my a** a few times when other peoples things spill in overhead bins. I think its the "best luggage" thread that I highlight some of my travels with it. The thing has over 100k miles now and looks new.

If you are super high end, check out the coach Transatlantic... i've always been googly eyed for that. One day....

Whatever you choose, going wheel-less is fun and changes it up a bit.
