Good seats to families? Ummm..yeah, it works just the opposite. Families who buy the cheapest tickets and don't fly often are about as low as it gets on the airline totum pole...Alaska, unlike my main carrier United, does release MVP seats at 24 hours so at least you have a better chance of a good seat that way...I would literally at T-minus 24 hours check-in for the best possible chance.

Online check-in isn't possible and it gives error 400 and I am unable to see the seats availability that way.
