Yeah, I would be inclined to try to get two each (Bus/Per) on the AmEx cards right now as they have a low threshold with the matched promos and may not be around or matchable for long. Do an SPG AmEx at the same time and you have a maximum of 2 hard pulls if they do one business and one personal (I only had one pull from one business and one personal on same day from AmEx). Both AmEx MR cards require a call to get them to match the promo (or a few calls) but once you get someone to match one of the promos you can get it done on both your card and Mr. OP's. Then call in about the other card.
If you get a referral from someone for the SPG card it will be for the 25K SPG for $15K spend.

p.s. And it may make more sense for you to put the AmEx MR points into BA or another airline. Up to you.
