Going to Bangkok for the first time over Thanksgiving, and I think I'd like to spend about 5 or 6 days in the city and then head out for a side trip for 3 or 4 days to someplace. I'm leaning towards Siem Riep because it's seems like a nice relaxing contrast, but I started to do some research and my head started to explode because of all the choices that are available, like a resort town in Thailand (Phuket, Chang Mai, Pattaya) or maybe Phnom Penn, Bali etc.

I guess I'm looking for a slower pace but not something totally dead. Also after Bangkok, I probably will be in gay sensory overload, so I don't need to have a gay destination, but would still appreciate mixing with the gay folk in the evenings.

For those experienced FTers, do you think Siem Riep is the best fit?
