I spend a lot of time in Charlotte since we have a big regional office there. The Ren Suites is good. Good breakfast, they're friendly and the restaurant is there when your flight comes in late. I've never had issues with being recognized as PlatPrem.
The Marriott Southpark is probably my favorite. They do have suites for upgrades, there's decent restaurants next door and across the street at the mall. Other places like Orig. Pancake Hse and Dean/Deluca are nearby.
The Marriott City Center is decent too and downtown Charlotte is a pedestrian friendly area with good restaurants like Capital Grille, Wild Wing, Ruth's Chris, Smith/Wollensky within walking distance.
My least favorite is the Marriott Executive Center. It's become a very dodgy area around there, the hotel is tired looking and not very interesting.
