I actually called AT&T today to get an unlock code for the Blackberry I borrowed, but they would not give me one as it is "tied" to AT&T, nor would they give me one for my current iPhone (3GS) or the older one I still have (original version). Kind of ridiculous. So I signed up for their "World Traveler" for $6 which means I'll pay $.99/minute to make calls from my iPhone, but it is better than nothing, and like I said I don't imagine I'll be making calls for anything other than emergencies.
I had also borrowed another friend's old Samsung Alias but she couldn't find a charger and they appear to be impossible to acquire anymore, so that won't work either.
After all that i'm quite frustrated by the whole situation!
The blackberry should be able to unlock as long as its been with the account for like 2 years or something. It will require calling blackberry and have them send you the codes depending on the blackberry.
I would ask for a manager at AT&T to get the phones unlocked because that is just BS.
