You can buy Priority Club Gold status for $50 but I have absolutely no idea why anyone would do so as it is as good as worthless and technically you can get Platinum free just by taking out their credit card.

Personally I like status to be hard to earn but gives back good benefits in return. I'd hate BA to go down the route that hotels are starting to by makes status easy to earn - the lounges are already busy enough at peak time.
