Miami airport nightmare
Last Saturday my husband and I flew from Barbados to Miami on our way back to Boston. We had 90 minutes to make the connection and we didn't make it. Our first line was at immigration, and we had an agent who engaged in lengthy conversation with each person, while his cohorts were just stamping the immigration forms, checking passports, and letting people through. It took us 30 minutes to get through his line. Then we went to baggage claim to retrieve our luggage, which you have to do since this is the first port of entry into the US. The baggage claim area was a sea of bodies and luggage carts. Our carousel was between us and the endless line of travelers trying to get out. It took us 30 minutes to get the luggage and get out as there were only about 4 agents taking immigration cards. When we finally got out, we had to go through another security check which took another 10 minutes. By the time we got to the belt to put our luggage on for our flight, we were told it was too late. So we had to take all our luggage, go up to the next floor, and stand in another long line with others who had missed connecting flights. And, of course, since we were going on a new flight, you guessed it, another security check with the luggage. We finally got on our plane at 5:30 instead of 1:30, and made it home. What was additionally frustrating was that we knew our flight had been overbooked and we wanted to bump!! Now we know why they overbook..most people don't make it to the flight at all!!! Anyway, just wanted to give a 'heads up' to those of you connecting in Miami.
