OK, cool, I was afraid that was an all the time hassle. I'll be mor emindful of it on my way back on Saturday and see what they say.

Well, I wasn't reviewing this particular trip, per se, as I was getting exposed to AA's product. So, I didn't mean to refer to it's value relative to my particular ticket (notice I also commented on the F seat). I do fly international and transcon business, so I am interested in this aspect of their service in and of itself.

OK, that makes a lot more sense. I don't think I paid enough attention to the announcements (are they more muffled on all AA planes??). I'll make a point to bring mine or pay it once.

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Overall, I rate UA and AA dead equal. I think that ultimately it comes down to what routes you will be flying and what is most important to you in flight.

I pick UA for some routes and AA for some. And (rarely) I just don't care which I fly.

Well, I'm lucky in that my travels generally only take me to the largest US cities, and I don't have to do a lot of connecting. The only time I really had trouble was when I lived in Houston for a while, but I'm back at what is basically a hub for both of them, and my primary destination (ORD) is also a hub for both of them. I can get almost anywhere I need to go domestically in one hop on either carrier.

However, I'm not so cavalier about it not mattering which one I fly. I only fly about 60K-70K miles per year, so I have to consolidate in order to get status. Status really helps me on the ground domestically (don't you ever look at the regular lines and think how glad you are to be in the elite line??) and in the air internationally (well, the miles accrued in one place help more there, I guess, but if I could get to EXP or 1K, the VIPOW's or SWU's would make a big difference there as well).

Didn't you enjoy the end of flight mints?

I only flew F on the LAX-SJC flight, in which I didn't get any of the above!! I have an upgrade request in for my return trip (although I think I might reject it in favor of holiday spending), but if I keep it, I'll be sure to post a followup on long-range F service.

robb how could you do this to me? After all we shared, the secret vows, the tender smiles (etc, etc...)

And making it public, none the less!

I'm sorry, I've tried to tell you so many times, but didn't know how to do it. This was the only way, the coward's way. Can you ever forgive me??
