I flew SAA in the summer of 2000 from JNB-Maputo to do some charity medical work. Our flight had to make an emergency landing b/c the flap would not retract. This was horribly handled and we had to sit in the aircraft for three hours while the mechanics outside were manually pulling on the flap. Finally they transferred us to another plane. The business class lounges in JNB and Cape Town are quite well stocked and equivalent to those of BA/Comair. Still, if travelling on a paid ticket, I would go BA all the way.
