I'm just learning that I can travel the world on frequent flyer miles! ^ I'm very green so please understand I may not know what I'm talking about. This may not even be the right forum to ask for advice.

I'd like to take my wife and I to Mo'orea & Rarotonga in a couple of years. That means that between now and sometime late next summer I need to develop a strategy for building enough FF miles to construct free awards travel.

Can someone help me construct a business class reward flight and help me determine what kind of FF miles I need to build up over the next year or so?

A couple salient points:

• My wife is a teacher, so this would need to be high season travel (June-Aug), otherwise flexible dates.
• Homebase is SFO/OAK/SJO
• I don't have many FF miles on any airline other than AA (that's why I need help building a strategy!)

I think it would be SFO-LAX-PPT-RAR-LAX-SFO

I think I can get from SFO to PPT on my AA miles (I have about 250k) but I'm lost trying to understand how to get through the next two legs. NZ I think? I'd like to use the 100k ultimate rewards points I've accumulated if possible.
