Sorry, FOs should not get upgraded just because DMs, PMs and GMs boarded the aircraft as requested. This policy encourages a mess at the gate, with people hovering around the counter, and also encourages a mess with the carry on bags of some of your top customers. You listening DL??
I have to agree.
Basically, SkyPriority priority boarding benefits (zone 1) are largely a moot point unless you want to forfeit your chance at an upgrade (no-show/misconnect etc.).
DL could keep all guests happy, let them board and get baggage space, not lose their zone 1 'benefit', AND not skip over them should seats open up - all by doing move-ups onboard. This is done at UA and CO.
DL also benefits - folks aren't hanging around at the gate til the last minute hoping for no-shows or misconnects etc. which can increase congestion etc. I'm sure most GAs would rather folks just board expeditiously and they no exactly who is onboard, how many they are waiting for etc.
With regard to those that say that the GA doesn't have time to be fussing around moving folks up - I think this is largely a moot point also. On TWO flights earlier this year, one in ATL and one in MSP, there were a ton of misconnects. Both times I boarded. Both times the flight was late boarding, but the GA handed the BPs for F to the Lead FA. In one case the Lead FA moved me up there and then. In the other case, there were FIVE of us on an A320 who were given new BPs. The FA gave the new BPs out after doors were closed and told us to move up after seatbelt sign was off.
It IS doable. It DOES reduce the need for folks to hang around the gate at last minute not boarding. It DOES mean that all Medallions can board using their SkyPriority benefits, get luggage space, and relax know the UG is there is if there is a no-show.
