I was travelling with my girlfriend to Chicago. We landed at O’Hare airport. My girlfriend and I came into the main airport area of Arrivals and went looking for a taxi. We were quite tired and ended up having to walk a long distance through the airport to the taxi area. Before we went outside to where the taxis were, a guy asked us if we needed a taxi. Since we had previously, on a couple of occasions, taken rides from a private individual who approached us if we needed a taxi to our hotel, we said yes. He told us to follow him up the escalators to his taxi. I guess we weren’t thinking because all of the regular taxis were downstairs. When we arrived upstairs, we went outside to his car (not taxi) which was the only car around. Inside the car (in the driver’s seat) was another guy. We thought the first guy who took us upstairs would help us load the luggage and then leave. After we loaded the luggage into the trunk, I went to tip the first guy who said it wasn’t necessary since he was coming along with us. This seemed very suspicious and uncomfortable for me so I told him to unload the luggage. I couldn’t see why the driver needed a companion to take us to our hotel. My girlfriend and I then went back downstairs and took a regular taxi to our hotel. Has anyone had similar experiences to this?
