I was sitting on a train into London the other day with a man aged about 70 in the next bank of seats (I am much younger). There were I think six carriages on the train. One is designated 'Quiet Carriage', and there are signs on every window saying 'Quiet zone, no mobile phone or headphones':

The man made a phone call to some unfortunate woman, possibly his wife, complaining that it was such a pain to have get a taxi as he had a briefcase (!) and could she pick him up. She said no, she didn't like parking in London. I was quite irritated by his selfishness in ignoring the rules (and also too the woman he was talking to), but said nothing.

He then phoned a second unfortunate woman and said much the same before he lost signal. Ah, silence, I thought. But no, several minutes later he called her back. At this point I had had enough, there are six carriages on the train and he chose to sit in the 'quiet' one to make endless obnoxious phone calls, so I stood up and pointed out that mobile phones were prohibited. He said 'Why is that?', 'Complain to the train company if you don't like it', I said, and he terminated the call.
