Goldpoints redemptions are poor value for money compared to the IHG earnings and redemptions.
I tried to upgrade room in Paris (3 diferent hotels). Everytime staff was suprised and did not know about the offer, and upgrade was not possilble. I call Carlson, but the answer was : "Sorry, they should know about the offer. We can not help you"

In my opinion Carlson is the worst program !
