Undercharged for an upgrade with points

I booked travel for three in economy and wanted to upgrade the DXB-DAC leg so i tried online. Unfortunately it said that I didn't have enough miles to upgrade all three people which I knew but it didn't allow me to select some of the people on the itinerary to upgrade.

So i called up the skywards manchester desk. Gave him my booking ref and he proceeded to check and came back to say there was no availability. I told him that i could see availability online but he still refused saying that i will need to try calling later. I then asked him to split the itinerary so that i can do the upgrade online myself. I also asked him how many miles i would require and he told me 30000 per person which is correct for a saver ticket.

I then went online after hanging up and with the new booking reference i proceeded to upgrade and lo and behold there was availability.

The benefit of doing it online was not only that there was avalability but for some reason it was calculating the miles required as if i had a flex ticket ^

Anyone else had such an experience of being told there is no availability and of being undercharged? I guess this is due to the mess that has come from EK's IT systems and the whole saver/flex mess but hey I'm not complaining on this occasion.
