It's sad, but this is how things get done.
You can do it at the airport too...I'm pretty sure someone in need of a bassinet can boot out even someone who has been checked in already. I know it has happened to me before (I'm a single traveler, and a DM member, and have been booted from a bassinet seat after OLCI to be replaced by a family needing a bassinet).
