OK, as a frequent visitor to the much-under-represented-here Barcelona, I feel that I must add my two cents.

There is a beach in Barcelona. There are beautiful coastal villages within a day trip. There is astounding architecture (not just Gaudi). There are wonderful hotels (my favorite is the Calderon). There is incredible food (did I mention two friends have restaurants there?). And much nightlife.

Next month, there won't be many tourists (though I will be there the 20th-27th).

Madrid is a wonderful city. I just happen to find Barcelona wonderfuller.

And dom't forget Montserrat which is spectacular and an easy day trip from Barcelona.
