The place is nice enough but still in India. Regarding the departure lounge; that is shared with all major airlines so it is extremely busy at night. Lucky if you ca get a seat. Try to spend as little time as possible there since even in the First section there is hardly any food. BLR is a boring airport.
BLR may be a boring airport with little to do but it is 100x better than the old one which was little more than military airfield with an disused hanger as the terminal.
I had a 6 hour layover in BLR following a CW flight (oh how I wish there had been an arrivals lounge!) a few months ago. I was fairly impressed by immigration (certainly compared to previous experiences in BOM) but the standard of food and drink available were shocking.
In contrast, the new international terminal at DEL is fantastic, even though it's not fully open yet - though it's spooky that they use the same female voice for tannoy achievements that LHR does.
