I also want to stress my earlier point made quickly: on a tourist visa you can't go off to other countries and then return to India unless you wait 2 months. There are ways around this for neighbouring countries but unless you get lucky on re-entry they aren't automatic.

Re visa, are you saying that dual or multiple entry Indian tourist visas are no longer issued? If so, what a bizarre state of affairs. Easily circumvented with a business visa of course....
