Major concern over virgin strikes

This is really bothering me to. We are flying to Chicago on July 28th with Virgin, having chosen them to fly with because we thought they were a 'safe' company, unlike BA who have a history of industrial action!!! We have been planning and saving for our trip for 2 years and it's a really big deal. I've never been out of Europe before and this trip is as a celebration of my 25th wedding anniversary with my husband and children. We are travelling route 66 across to LA so it's vital that we fly out on the day we planned because of the fact we are travelling 300 miles a day across the country and already have hotels booked. We first heard about possible strike action a month ago and it has ruined our whole experience as we are too scared to look forward to the trip in case it doesn't happen. We wouldnt be able to re-book it again this year so if the worst happened we would have to wait ANOTHER YEAR. I need people to keep telling me it will be ok because right now I don't feel it
