It was probably easier to just say they needed your seat for a passenger with special needs instead of risking spinning you up telling you they moved a couple in your seat because they moved someone from 2B to 1B then had to move them to 1C after giving 1A and 1B to a different set of people. Not everyone would understand that.

Who knows why they do what they do or why it happened but I doubt it was malice.
